Twelve Somali men being tried for piracy were acquitted and released due to lack of evidence on Thursday 6th October.

The 12 men were accused of attacking the container vessel MSC Jasmine in the Indian Ocean in January 2013 and after a yearlong trial which began in October 2013, all twelve men have been released.

The men were originally captured by European Naval forces patrolling the Indian Ocean and were subsequently taken to Mauritius for trial.
